ERCET recognises the disproportionate impact of the recession in East Renfrewshire, in particular for young people and for ‘white collar’ workers.  We know from experience that activity to increase access to employment, promoting learning opportunities and skills development and supporting local enterprises and entrepreneurs will all play a part in moving East Renfrewshire successfully out of the recession.

That is why ERCET will work with the Council and others to promote and provide increased opportunities for learning, employability and enterprise to support wider economic development and regeneration across East Renfrewshire.  We will work with communities to foster a culture of learning and entrepreneurship and will seek opportunities to build capacity in local companies and organisations for long-term sustainability and growth.

Key projects contributing to this business theme include our Graduate Internship Programme which is providing invaluable real work experience for unemployed graduates while also building business capacity for a more enterprising third sector; Rouken Glen Training Centre which is expanding capacity for community development and learning, increasing vocational skills and experience and supporting the development of new social enterprise; and our Community Nursery which aims to provide a much needed facility to enable parents to return to work and take up learning opportunities
